Following Jesus is a Journey

Following Jesus isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a step-by-step journey. At MBC, we believe everyone has a next step in their journey that helps you grow closer to Jesus and begin living out your faith alongside others walking the same path. We’re here to walk with you as you take your next steps and discover the joy of following Jesus Christ.

Your First Steps

Each of your first steps in following Jesus helps you grow closer to Him and live out your faith in a way that brings Him glory!

  • “The Word became flesh and dwelled among us.” – John 1:14

The bible tells one great story: God came to be with us. Jesus, God in human form, stepping into history to restore the relationship we were created to have with Him.

  • God designed you for relationship with Him. But, sin broke that relationship we were created a separation between us and God.

All I have sinned and fall short of the glor of God.” – Romans 3:23

“The wages of sin is death.” – Romans 6:23

We can’t fix this on our own. Our good deeds can’t erase sin. Only God can.

  • Jesus came to do what we could not. He lived a perfect life, died for our sins, and rose again to bring us back to God.

“Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” – 1 Peter 3:18

Through faith in Jesus, you can receive forgiveness, freedom, and new life.

Whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life... he has crossed over from death to life.”. – John 5:24

  • Salvation is a gift – not something you earn.

“God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

You can take that step today by:

    • Admitting your need: “God, I am a sinner separated from You.”

    • Believing in Jesus: “I believe Jesus is the Son of God.”

    • Receiving His gift: “I trust His death and resurrection for my forgiveness and new life.”

  • If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him form the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9-10

When you trust in Jesus, a new life begins! You are forgiven, loved, and forever His.

    1. Talk with God daily: prayer builds your relationship

    2. Read His Word: start with the Gospel of John

    3. Find a bible-believing church to help you grow

    4. Share your story: tell someone what God has done in your life

  • “Now is the time of God’s favor; today is the day of salvation.” – 2 Corinthians 6:2

    Baptism

    • What is baptism? We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone... but saving faith is never alone. It always results in a life of obedience to Christ (Eph. 2:8-10). 1 John 2:3 says, “By this we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.” One of His important commandments is that we confess our faith in Christ through water Baptism.

    • At Mansfield Bible Church, we do not believe that baptism is required for salvation; however, the scriptures do teach that there is a close connection in the minds of the apostles between belief and baptism. Fait in Christ brings forgiveness of sins. Baptism is the outward act that demonstrates inward faith.
